| In this book, the first one in the Chronicles, Louiss telling his story to a young reporter, Daniel. He tells him about how it all started, how he became a living dead, and the story reaches from the end of the 18th century all the way till the book was written. After the death of his brother, he felt guilty, and a vampire, Lestat, came to ease his pain. They didnt get along however, and Louis wanted to leave him. Lestat then made another vampire, a little girl called Claudia, to make Louis stay. Since she had just been five years old when she was made a vampire, that was the shape she would live in forever, and she hated Lestat for it. After some 60 years, she tried to kill him, drained him of his blood and threw him in the swamp. He returned, but after a fire, Claudia and Louis managed to escape to Europe, where they finally reached Paris. There they met a coven under the leading of Armand. Claudia knew that Armand wanted Louis, so she forced Louis to make her a new guardian, Madeleine. After some time, the other vampires found out that Claudia had killed her maker, and she was punished with death. Some time later, Louis went back to America, where he claims to have met Lestat. Lestat had been there on Claudias trial, saying that yes, she had tried to kill him. He begged Louis to come back to him but Louis refused. They parted and that was the end of the story. But the book ends with Louis feeding from Daniel, leaving him on the floor. Daniel wakes up later and writes down the location where Louis had met Lestat for the last time. |

| My comments | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I love this book. It was the first Anne Rice book I ever read, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I read after I saw the movie, and was quite surprised by the differences, but the book is ten times better than the movie, really. According to me, it is one of the best ones in the Chronicles, and it is also quite different, especially when it comes to Lestat. And Lestat did write a comment about it in the end of The Vampire Lestat, explaining the parts he thought Louis had gotten wrong. It didnt have the boring parts so many of Annes books have. Even if I have to confess that I sometimes get bored when Lestat isnt around. The covers to the book are just ones I like. The one up to the left is quite usual I think, but the others are just graphic novels. That one up to the left shows Louis holding a candle, the one under is Babette and Louis. Up to the right is Louis climbing a house in Paris and down to the right...Well, Im not sure, as I said, I just happen to like it. |
