Quarters- The quarters are four cardinal directions. In a neopagan circle, they are often marked by quarter candles. A ritual always begins, after the drawing of the circle with a sword or athame, with the “calling of the quarters” that is the invocation of the guardian spirit (usually called the Mighty Ones, or the Lords of the Watchtowers) who preside over the directions.
