Pentagram- Continuous five-pointed star (pentacle) contained within a circle and used as far back as the Egyptian times to represent the concept of the spirit world. The five points are thought by many pagan traditions to correspond to the five elements; earth, air, fire, water, and spirit (the unseen element that binds all the other together) If it is worn or positioned upright, this symbol can represents the Right-Hand Path of Witchcraft. Worn inverted or with the point aimed down, the pentagram represent the concept of the magician indulging in earthly pleasures and possible being ruled by them rather than rising above them. Neither position is bad though some violent Left-Handed Path traditions have adopted the inverted pentagram as their emblem. Several formal pagan traditions (including some Wicca) use the inverted pentagram to represent the second level of an initiate’s degree. In this case it represents a journey through introspective growth.
