The Potterverse was really the first fandom in which I became remotely active. My fan-writing name, Lady Norbert, came from Harry Potter; I wanted something that was related to the fandom in which I was writing (and at that time, HP was the only fandom for which I wrote fiction), but that wasn't terribly common. There are lots of writers who have 'Hermione' and 'Ginny' in their handles! Since I love dragons, I thought it was reasonable to call myself after Hagrid's beloved Norwegian Ridgeback, and I tacked the 'Lady' on the front to clarify my gender. After all, the dragon was male.
My earliest HP stories are not to be found anywhere; they were first posted in the summer of 2000, and they were...not horrible, but rather poor. Most of the stories I have out there now I like much better, so if you're here about that, click here.
In the course of being part of the fandom, I've encountered lots of different places and things that I've enjoyed. I'm a big admirer of certain fan fiction written by other people. I've found a number of fun websites worth investigating, and plenty of Harry Potter humor. Oh, and if you want to read more fan fiction or view more fan art, you can do that too.
The members of the fandom are known for coming together to help various causes in the name of Hogwarts unity. J.K. Rowling herself inspired us by writing two of Harry's textbooks, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages, and donating all proceeds from the sales to Comic Relief U.K. to help children. The Leaky Cauldron runs an annual drive to raise funds for Book Aid International, a charity that provides the joy of reading to young people in disadvantaged countries. I love being part of such a caring fandom.
