This list of archives is actually a leftover, of sorts, from a Harry Potter fan site I used to maintain. I've checked thoroughly, and these links all still work. They're divided into two kinds of archives -- those which host general HP fanfic (or any kind of fic, including HP) and those which host fanfic pertaining to specific individuals or romantic couples in the Potterverse.

General Fan Fiction Archives

FanFiction.net -- Considered by many the epitome of fan fiction websites, FFN has literally thousands of stories by authors all over the world. Theirs is the largest collection of Harry Potter fictions to be found anywhere (more than 100,000 and growing daily!), and they also have fics in hundreds of other categories. Movies, books, television shows, music groups, cartoons -- if you love it, they probably have fan fiction about it!

Sugar Quill -- Run by two of Harry Potter's many adult fans, Arabella and Zsenya (who are also two of the most celebrated fic writers around). They're quite selective about the fiction they publish, so many writers are very happy to have their works dubbed "quill worthy." Among the excellent things you'll find at this site, two that are definitely worth checking out are the various writing competitions and the Sugar Quill Literacy Project, which is a non-profit fundraiser for charity. These ladies have hearts -- as well as quills -- of gold.

Fiction Alley -- Owned and operated by some more HP fanfic legends, including Flourish and Cassie Claire. This extensively crafted website is home not only to HP fan fiction, but also to some splendid works of fan art. Their stories are organized into four major categories, each of which has a character -- Harry, Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang, or Justin Finch-Fletchley -- as its mascot; the fifth category, fan art, is represented by Ginny Weasley.

Diagon Alley is a fan fiction site which is specifically geared toward Harry's legions of adult fans. As webmistress Alison points out, not all fans of the books are between the ages of 8 and 13 -- I know I'm not. Sign up for a mailing list, join the community, read great stories and peruse pretty fan art.

The Ship's Archivist -- A collection of romance stories, organized by whose romance is profiled in the story. Lily and James, Hermione and Ron, Harry and Ginny, Draco and Ginny, Harry and Hermione...you get the idea. If romance is your thing, this is the dock to board your favorite ship.

The Harry Potter Fiction Writers Association -- A mailing list for writers of Harry Potter fan fiction. Members may upload story files to the group archives for the others to read, as well as discuss via email the different potential "ships," critiques of stories, and story ideas.

Character- and Ship-Specific Archives

These are story-hosting sites where you can read about a specific character or relationship in the Potterverse:

Sidekicks: The Mature Bunch -- If you love the Ron/Hermione pairing, this site is a must-see. The contents include fanfic links, news from the movies, R/H hints from the fifth book, and information about Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

The Werewolf Registry -- The home for fans of everyone's favorite werewolf, Remus Lupin. Find your way around the site by means of an enlarged copy of the Marauder's Map. It's another great site for fan fiction and fan art, and despite the Lupin devotion, the stories do not have to center on him, though of course the site owners prefer that he appear in the story somewhere. They also have a special section for werewolf stories and legends which are completely unaffiliated with the Harry Potter universe.

Checkmated! -- Don't worry; the chess pieces aren't violent here! In a similar vein to Sidekicks, this site is home to devotees of the Ron/Hermione romantic matchup.

S.P.A.R.C. -- Sorceresses Promoting the Adoration and Reverence of Charlie. It is, of course, a Charlie Weasley fan site! Hallie and the Lone Astronomer write and collect fan fiction devoted to the dragon-singed Weasley brother. Any full-blooded Weasley lover will certainly want to drop by their site sometime.

Positively Percy! -- Dedicated to promoting the most-overlooked Weasley, this website is all about perfect Percy. Includes some great Percy quotes, information on his movie counterpart, the lexicon behind Percy's name, and much more.
