Dear Diary... August so far has been pretty uneventful. Today is, Wednesday August 7th. I love Wednesdays. Wednesday is lotto day. We have this group at the office that pools their money together and gets tickets for the month and on Wednesday I allow my thoughts to wander a bit on what I would do if I won the lotto. The jackpot this week is pretty large. After taxes we would each be pretty close to being millionaires. So if we won tonight I would have to say I'd quit work and open the bed and breakfast of my dreams in either Julian or Ramona that catered to weddings and honeymoon get-a-ways. What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic. Speaking of romantic interests, Sean is sick and I'm trying my best to avoid him at this point because I definitely can't afford to take any more time off work. By the way, a warning to my friends this weekend. I will not be around. I'm helping my mom's friend Kim move Saturday then going to Ann's to soak in her hot tub afterwards. I expect to be in pain Sunday and will be a lump. That's about it for today. Time to go play some Spite & Malice then work on my growing collection of Angels I'm making for Christmas gifts this year. Dear Diary... Well today is August 16th, and this week too was uneventful. Mostly because I caught Sean's cold and spent all of last weekend, and Monday and Tuesday in bed. Work was pretty crazy because even though I was out sick I was still assigned files. An oversight I'm sure. Well, it was a bit hairy, but I managed to get caught up today. I also passed a typing test for the county today. WHOO HOO! 50 WPM baby. You know Sean pointed out to me that's almost a word a second. That's some pretty intense typing. Anyway it's only step one in many to land a county job, but it's a big step for me. I've always considered myself a pretty sucky typist. I owe the biggest thanks to my killer Mom. She really pushed to get me to finish my application and pulled some strings to get me a test today. Mom, you're the best! So it's Friday at last. This weekend holds moving some furniture for Kim. I wasn't much of a help last weekend (sick people don't have much strength) so I'm gonna make up for it tomorrow. After the move, it's beach time baby. It's time for the 3rd annual SDGBC bon fire. Usually only 6 or 7 people show, but we always have a good time. I did manage to crank out a few more angels this week. I sent 3 of them off to my friend Jen in Scotland. They should make it there about the same time I do. Speaking of Jen I should probably wrap up. It's almost midnight and I can't be late for our weekly phone date. Having your best friend living in a time zone 8 hours ahead of you is such a pain in the ass. But hey, I always have a place to stay in Scotland. Dear Diary... So far this weekend has far surpassed the last. While I'm still not 100% healthy I'm feeling much better. Last night when I wrapped up here, the phone rang at 10 to Midnight and I was sure it was Jen, but instead the voice on the other end was a very happy hockey buddy of mine, Kelly. I was a bit surprised to hear her voice since she's supposed to be in Boston. Well, she made it to Boston fine and just happened to run into my second favorite goal tender in the world (sorry Danny Laviollette is still #1), Chris Classen a.k.a. Pickle. Well, She and Chris had finished closing down the bars in Boston and were hanging out and thought they'd check in on me and see what was happening in SD. I must say I felt honored that they paused to call little ol' me. I found out Chris is doing just fine in Boston, but misses the folks (and the weather) here in SD. Well, an hour later, after Chris tutored me on the fine points of how to be good puck bunny, I reminded Kelly & Chris that they were calling me from Kelly's cell phone and we wrapped things up. By the way, if you should ever happen to meet Chris call him 'Captain Commando Pickle'. And if you happen to be team mate of his, do not borrow his hockey shorts! You've been warned. Enough said. Now, on to something completely different. Tonight's bon fire was the best yet. We actually had 11 people show up! Ann had a bit of trouble finding a pit. I guess Ski Beach was the place to be tonight. Next year we will definitely have someone go hold a spot no later than 4 pm. To be honest, we didn't think anyone other than the 4 of us in our party would show. Anyway, on the way to meet with Ann we ran into Tom & company and proceeded to find Ann. She was lucky enough to find a table, but no fire pit. As we pondered on what to do next and unpacked our picnic, Joyce found our group and we decided we couldn't build an illegal fire. So it was decided that someone needed to go ask around the pits in the area if we could join their group. To our right was a gathering from the Home of the guiding hands. We decided to pass on asking to join them. The group on left seemed the best likely choice. Mom was the bravest of the bunch & went on over. She gave the thumbs up and off we went. All were having a good time when it appeared we would not have enough wood to until the 9:40 Sea World fire works. I turned to Mom and said something to that effect. Not 30 seconds later, I saw some people from the pit to our left (who had a HUGE fire going) carrying over wooden pallets. I couldn't believe it. This guy (who looked very much like Taj Melson) said they felt compelled to share with us, since our fire was so small and they had plenty to go around. I should note for the record that these kind people were Muslim, for those who have taken up not liking that religious group since 9/11. Now that I was feeling a great high from this out pouring of kindness I got brought to reality as I noticed flashing lights by where the blazer was parked. Since our move of locations I had forgotten that I parked in a red zone. I had meant to move it, but in all the excitement of finding a pit, making new friends and thanking the wood bearers, I forgot. That's a $60 lesson I won't soon forget. Sean is gonna kill me when he finds out. I thought about getting a money order and not ever telling him about it, but I'm sure since there were so many witnesses it would be brought up. So I might as well face the music. Dear Diary... My luck in life continues on it's roller coaster ride. Last week the booster club decided to pay for half my parking ticket because I was unloading wood when I first parked the blazer and they just felt sorry for me. I take charity, I'm not proud. As a matter of fact I was thrilled. But today, Tuesday the 27th, I walk into work and am told that my internet use is being monitored and is in question. Yeah, I look at the net once in a while for non-work related things, but it's freaking slow, and we were told we could look at the net on our lunch or breaks. So what the fuck?! But the day just keeps getting better. I got a letter from the county saying my application has been rejected because there was no typing certificate attached. !@#$%# Hello, I was down there, in PERSON at took the damned test. I have like 10 witnesses who were there! The theme song for my life this week is from HEE HAW. I know most of you never watched the show, the chorus goes like this... If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, gloom, despair and agony on me. Ann is right, August sucks and I cannot wait for this month to be OVER!
