The activities for the day involved solid waste and recycling.  We went to the landfill to see how they help with recycling.  For example, trees and shrubs are turned into mulch that people can get for free to use in their yards.

Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) Recyclery

Then we headed down the road to BFI Recyclery to see how certain household items can be recycled and to understand how much more room recycling leaves at the landfills.

Composting

After we got back to TAMU-CC, we learned how to do our own composting on a smaller scale.  Worms help to change our organic garbage into something usable and lends itself to many multi- disciplined activities for the classroom.
