Project 2:11 Oyaani Bridge Children’s Orphanage.

Name / Location of the project
Oyaani Bridge is located in Nyanza Province, Migori district on the Oyaani hills famous for sugar plantation. It is a distance of 450km from Nairobi City to Oyaani , on Migori-Isibania boarder highway

Project Description
It is a children’s center hosting orphans both infected and affected with HIV/AIDS The institution has 50 Children ages ranging from 1 year to 15 years,

  • Taking care of the children
  • Teaching
  • Nursing the children,
  • Guidance and counseling.
  • Farming activities for food security.
  • Income Generating Activities for self-sustainability


    Skills Requirement
  • Teaching skills and / or Experience
  • Nursing skills
  • Agricultural skills.
  • Recreative skills
  • Social work.


    Duration
    3 -6 months for Mid-Term volunteers and over 6 months for Long-Term volunteers.


    Basic Facts
  • Upon arrival to Kenya, an orientation session / preparation seminar will be offered. Transport to and from the project, food and accommodation arrangements will be taken care of by KVDA.
  • The area is one of the most densely populated regions in the Kenyan republic and very much affect with HIV/AIDS where hardly a week passes without a death related to HIV/AIDS..


    Climatic Conditions are as follows: -
  • Environment - evergreen, with an annual average rainfall of more than 1500mm.
    The temperatures are moderate (not too hot nor cold). There are wide variations despite the changes in seasons.

  • There is a private hospital in Migori District Hospital - 3km away Oyaani
  • A transport (minibus) connection point - 500m away
  • The place is famous for sugar plantation, which is a cash crop of the region earning most of the community ‘s income.
  • Geographical features in the area include hills and valleys of Migori
  • The great Kisumu-Migori-Isabania high way joins Kenya and Tanzania at the boarder point.
  • For shopping possibilities Migori Town offers variety Shopping which is about three {3} kms away. (Where a variety of basic needs are available)
  • Internet, postal and telephone services are available in Migori Town.
  • Mobile network {reception} is possible in the center.


    Number Of Volunteers Required
    A maximum of {3} five from January to December at any open time. Volunteers must start serving in the project at the given time.
