Project 2:12 KURIA CHILD AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

of the Project
Kuria Child and Women
Empowerment Programme is located in Nyanza Province,
Kuria District, Mabera Division along the Migori -
Isibania Road. It is a maximum nine-hour journey of
450km from Nairobi City.
Project Description
The programme is involved in girl-child education;
social work (Abakungu Women Group) and health care
Programmes (mainly focusing on FGM - Female Genital
Mutilation).
Type Of Voluntary
Work
The volunteer(s) will
be involved in the following activities:
Teaching
Visiting women in their homes
Community visits (in relation to the work undertaken)
Health care matters of varying kinds.
Involvement in constructive discussions on sensitive
issues affecting the women.
Socio-economic empowerment with focus on income generating
activities.
Skills Requirement
Social work skills and
/ or experience.
Knowledge in healthcare related issues.
Readiness and willingness to be involved in community
empowerment.
Duration
0-3 months & 0-6 months for Mid-Term volunteers
and over 6-12 months for Long-Term volunteers.
Climatic Conditions
Equatorial type of climate.
Prone to sudden changes in the weather patterns. At
times it may rain almost everyday.
Temperatures are moderate and in some instances may
be cold or hot whether day or night.

The nearest trading centre
is less than a kilometer away
A transport (minibus) connection point - about half
a kilometer away
A village trading centre - about half a kilometer
away
For a wide variety of shopping, communication, among
other possibilities, one has to travel 7km to Isibania
town or 20km to Migori town.
Number Of Volunteers
Required
A maximum of five {5} from January to December at
any open time. Volunteers must start serving in the
project at the given time either on the beginning
or middle of the month.
