PROGRAMMES 2005-2006 Project 2:16 Jikaze Self-Help Group.
Name / Location of the project Jikaze Self -Help group is located in Western
Province, Butere -Mumias district .It is situated
between Mumias town on your way to Butere .It is approximately
7 hours journey from Nairobi and about 7 kms from
Mumias town. Project Description It is a community
based charitable organization focused on HIV/AIDS,
health support and social-economic empowerment of
both affected and infected in the community
Type Of Work / Job The volunteer(s) will be involved in the following
areas:
Ø To empower the community to take care of
the children.
Ø Provision of basic needs, support for the
orphans and other vulnerable children to improve their
future.
Ø To promote access to quality medical care
for child and families.
Ø To promote women empowerment
Ø To promote youth development in communities.
Skills Requirement
Nursing skills and / or experience
Social workers
Teaching skills and / or experience
Recreative skills
Agricultural skills / or experience.
Vocational Training skills/or experience
Water and Sanitation
Improvement of community/village structures
Duration 3-6 Months
for Mid-Term volunteers and over 6 months for Long-Term
volunteers.
Basic Facts Upon arrival
to Kenya, an orientation session / preparation seminar
will be offered. Transport to and from the project,
food and accommodation arrangements will be taken
care of by KVDA.
Climatic Conditions are as
follows: - Environment - Moderate type of climate. Neither
hot nor cold but in between., with an unpredictable
weather pattern and an annual average rainfall of
more than 1500mm.
The temperatures are moderate (not too hot during
they day nor too cold during the night). There are
slight variations despite the changes in seasons.

Number of Volunteers Required
A maximum of {5} five at once from January
to December Volunteers must start serving in the project
at the given time. either on the beginning or middle
of the month.
