MID/LONG TERM PROGRAMMES 2005-2006

FURAHA COAST/BARAKA/ZION/St.PETER’S CHILDREN’S HOMES

Basically the children’s homes comprises of street children and orphans picked from Mombasa street and it outskirts {within the community} for rehabilitation purposes and care. The total number of the children is less than 30.

ACTIVITIES

Furaha Coast Children’s Home.

    The center comprises of only boys with the youngest {7 yrs and the oldest 21 years}. It was established in 1997 and the boys were recruited when there were very young. Now they are mutual.

  1. Volunteers work at the on Wednesdays and during the weekends when the children are at the home. They attend a nearby school.
  2. The work includes assisting in cleaning.
  3. The HIV/AIDS promotion by the volunteers to help the boys understand how the pandemic is threatening to tear the social fabric of our society.
  4. Assisting in developing teaching aid.
  5. Hygiene promotion.
  6. Drama activities, play script
  7. Guidance and counseling.
  8. Teaching the boys computers
  9. Tailoring skills.
  10. Income Generating Ideas for the sustainability of the center.
  11. Remedial classes after classes and during the holidays

Volunteers work on Wednesdays and during weekends.

BARAKA CHILDREN’S HOME.

    This home comprises of both boys and girls young as 2 yrs and the are accommodated and taught within the buildings where they are hosted. The total number of the children is less than 30.

  1. Teaching
  2. Taking care of the children
  3. Developing teaching aids
  4. Drama and cultural activities through music.
  5. Organizing for children excursion to beaches for the children to have fun apart from overcoming their social challenges.
  6. Income Generating Ideas for sustainability.
  7. Nursing
  8. Creativity.

St Peter’s Children Home.

    This is a center for young children {as young as 1 yr} and those who are mentally challenged. The children are accommodated and taught within the center. The total number of the children is 20

    The work includes;

  1. Taking care and Nursing.
  2. Teaching including foreign language as extra curriculum activity.
  3. Organizing outing activities for the children.
  4. Income Generating Activity Ideas for sustainability of the center.
  5. Assisting in general cleaning in the center.
  6. Utilizing the available resourse to sustain the center.

    Volunteers will work from Monday to Friday with an exception of weekends.
    {Though it is optional}

ZION CHILDREN’S HOME.

    This is basically a home where the youngest child is less than year. The are both sexes. The children attend a nearby school.
    Activities include;

  1. Nursing and taking care of the children.
  2. Guidance and counseling
  3. General cleaning.
  4. Organizing outing activities for the children at the beaches.
  5. Playing with the children.
  6. Income generating Ideas for sustainability of the center.
  7. Remedial classes for the children after classes and during the holidays.

Volunteers will be working from Mondays to Fridays. Weekends are optional
