Windows CE

Windows CE, also known as WinCE, is an OS enhanced to be able to support devices of minimal storage; a Windows CE kernel could run in megabytes of memory. Windows CE and Palm OS are major rivals of the embedded OS category. It is a real-time OS, which facilitates the creation of a real time system, which is the instantaneous processing of data and programs. It also supports multithreading execution, where a program is split into two or more parts to speed up the rate of processing the input.

A unique characteristic of WinCE is that many parts of it are provided as nonproprietary, their source codes have been distributed for various reasons such as allowing the user to adjust it to their hardware.
