Evidences:
Here's a few hints as to the relationship of Kurapika and Neon. These
are basically, what inspired me to make this site and hopefully, it'll
inspire future fans. Some information here are taken from Never
Too Late while some came from my own recollection. I live in the Philippines
and the series is dubbed in Tagalog and in a way, it's quite different
from other dubs (it's strangely sweeter). Another thing to remember is
that a lot of things are in the anime that is not in the manga.
SPOILER ALERT!!! This section may contain spoilers so if you haven't seen
all episodes, read at your own risk!
It is they're destiny to meet. When Senrithsu
and Kurapika first met, she felt something weird about him and when
they saw each other again in the Nostrad Mansion, she told him that
it was Kurapika's destiny that he work there (and destiny that he work
for Neon).
Even before they met, they were in a way, quite
eager to see each other. Neon was first seen looking through her window,
towards the building where Daltzorne tested the new bodyguards. When
she saw them coming, she excitedly walked away from the window (and
assumably, headed to sit prissily on her huge bed). Kurapika himself,
was curious to see who his boss was. Sure enough, he was shocked to
see a very pretty girl, smiling shyly (ehem...quite) at her new bodyguards.
Dunno who exactly she was smiling at, but maybe the cover of the manga
issue containing that scene should shed some light on the subject:
Another important moment was when Kurapika, along
with Neon and the other bodyguards headed for York Shin on a plane (in
my opinion, it's a Nostrad private jet). When they landed, everyone
else came out the plane immediately but it takes a while before Kurapica
and Neon made their way out the plane (don't you just wonder what took
them so long?). After that, Kurapika is seen secretly watching Neon,
who was cheerfully caressing her big, furry pet dog. Interesting...
After Daltzorne died, the Nostrad bodyguards were
left in turmoil. Kurapika suggested to the team that before doing anything
else, they must inform the 'main boss' (Right Nostrad) of what happened.
Scuwala said that only Daltzorne knew how to contact Right and since
he's dead, there was nothing they could do. Kurapika then suggested
to ask the 'little boss' for a way to contact Right. Scuwala rejected,
saying that Neon never knows anything other than to whine and cry. Kurapika
reacted a bit to this statement. He then said something like, "Even
though she's like that, we should still obey her orders, because Neon
is still our boss" (what a way to defend!)
When it was finally agreed that they had
to ask Neon's help, Kurapika told Scuwala to wake "the boss"
up. Scuwala began sweating bullets, saying that there was no way he'd
do that, for fear she might start kicking and screaming (like the time
she gave Daltzorne a lot of lumps on the head for preventing her from
going to the auction). Kurapika calmly agreed to do it himself. This
is a great scene, since it's the first time Kurapika and Neon are
seen talking one on one (I was lucky to have my digital cam with
me too! I photographed a lot of scenes from that episode). Neon didn't
kick or scream as Scuwala had predicted. Instead, she softly asked what
time it was. Kurapika filled her in with the details and asked if there
was any way they could contact Right. She eagerly offered to lend her
cell phone, saying she has her father's number in it. The bodyguards
then decide as to who should take the call. At first, they wanted Scuwala
to do it because he was the oldest but he refused. After all, he wasn't
the leader. That's when Senrithsu said they should choose a new leader
and nominated Kurapika. The others agreed and so Kurapika gave in. He
returned to Neon's bedside and told her it wouldn't be right that he
speak to Mr. Nostrad so suddenly.
"Could you call him and introduce me?" Kurapika asked Neon,
who cheerfully replied, "Sure!" (Talk about introducing your
boyfriend to your father. Kurapika's such a gentleman! It would indeed
be weird if Right hears a young man's voice coming from his daughter's
cell phone, wouldn't it?).
After introducing him, Neon smiled widely at Kurapika
and handed him her phone. I remember him blinking silently before taking
the phone. My best guess is he never had a girl smile at him like that
before. That blinking also led me to believe that Neon affects him in
more ways than one!
Kurapika and Right start talking on the phone.
Kurapika relates what had happened and the group responsible for it
(Genei Ryodan). He asked Right what their next move should be. Right
asks Kurapika for a suggestion. Kurapika then said that they should
move Neon away from York Shin at the soonest possible time, fearing
that they (the surviving bodyguards) may not be enough to protect her.
Right agrees but he doesn't think that would please Neon and he wants
to respect her desires as much as possible.
"The most important thing for me right now is your daughter's safety!"**
came Kurapika's stern reply, which left Right Nostrad speechless. This
was what sealed me as a K+N fan...the fact that he said it was the most
important thing for him at the moment...in Tagalog of course.
(**Tagalog: Ang pinakaimportanteng bagay para sa akin ngayon ay ang
kaligtasan ng iyong anak!)
After killing Ubogin, Kurapika went back to the
hotel, all bloodied up (90% of it is from Ubogin). Senrithsu and the
others asked if he was alright but he wouldn't say a word and continued
walking along the hallway towards his room. He walks past Neon's room,
where she was playing cards with her maids. She looked up and caught
a glimpse of Kurapika. After this, only the maids are seen playing cards.
Where'd Neon go off to? This moment is what made me do the fanart I
used for this layout's top image ^_^
While out in the mall with her maids as well as
Basho and Senrithsu, Neon excused herself, saying she needs to go to
the bathroom. She then escaped, disguising herself in such a different
fashion I didn't even recognize her myself until she took the wig off.
When Senrithsu reported to Kurapika that their boss was missing, he
immediately said that Neon was at the auction (he said this even before
he used his nen and chains to find her!) and this surprised Right Nostrad
very much (strange that Kurapika knows more about Neon than her own
father!) And seeing how fast Kurapika took action to find Neon, I'd
say he was worried himself!
Right and Kurapika hurried to the place where
Kurapika's nen indicated to be Neon's location. There, they heard Neon
had fainted and was helped by a man (Kuroro). Right kept on swearing,
and Kurapika said, "Don't worry… I know Neon is in good hands."
I think he said that as much for himself as it is for Right ^_^
Kurapika and Right went to the hospital where
Neon was taken. Kurapika was by her bedside while her father sat on
a stool, still distraught. Kurapika said something like they should
be thankful that Neon was safe (again, I believe, he's saying this as
much for himself as it is for Mr. Nostrad). As I recall, Right had screamed
at him, telling him to find the people responsible for this and Kurapika
calmly said that they should ensure Neon's safety first before doing
anything else. After that, he left and began a more vicious search for
the Genei Ryodan. Guess he got affected seeing Neon in that condition.
The first part of the OVA series ended with Kurapika
fainting. He had been ill for quite sometime until it finally took its
toll on his body (It's assumed he hadn't been sleeping, nor eating well
for the last few days after Neon's nen was stolen). He woke up in a
small room with Leorio and Senrithsu. He asked for the date and found
out he had slept for almost 12 hours. Senrithsu told him he was still
feverish and so he should sleep more. He then asked if Neon had gone
to the underground auction. Senrithsu then lied, saying that the auction
never took place and so Neon simply decided go to the Mafia online auction
in the internet. Kurapika immediately said he didn't believe Senrithsu.
"She(Neon) likes the excitement in the auction room," Kurapika
stated. "I can't believe she'd be content with an auction over
the net." (wow! He does know a lot about her! Even to the point
of sensing what is true and what is not about Neon!)
Senrithsu was silent for a moment after Kurapika
busted her lie. Then, she came clean and told him the truth. Scuwala
was killed and because of this, his girlfriend, who is also one of Neon's
maids, Elisa, was completely devastated. After seeing Elisa's emotional
breakdown, Neon was deeply moved. She even decided to go back home in
the Nostrad Mansion. This made Kurapika relax, making him drift back
to sleep. (Ah! What a relief!)
Three to four days have passed since Kurapika
fainted. Though only half-recovered, he decided to go back to the Nostrad
Mansion. Senrithsu and the others protested, saying Kurapika wasn't
healthy enough for the trip but he stubbornly said, "I must complete
my job." Gon had also come and ask Kurapika to teach him on using
his nen but he declined.
"I can't," Kurapika said, "because I have things to take
care of." (Oh, we know what those things are)
