His whole clan was massacred by a group of ruthless killers called Genei Ryodan. The reason why the tribe was killed was because of their eyes. Only the Kurutas have eyes which turn fiery red when they are angry and in death, the eyes remain forever red. The Genei Ryodan sell these eyes because of the high price they have. Kurapika, of course, goes off to find revenge. His main goal is to kill every single one of the Generiodan and take back the eyes of his forefathers to return them to their proper place... along with the dead Kuruta people. Everytime Kurapika sees or hears anything about spiders, his green eyes turn red and his actions go deadly. In his quest, Kurapika soon becomes friends with Gon, Killua, and Leorio, whom he met while he was training to be a blacklist hunter. Soon, he separates from the team.
