Though not the largest or grandiose structure on Coruscant, the Jedi Temple was still highly respected, and housed the foundations of the noble Jedi Order. The Temple's design was thought to symbolise the stages of a Jedi's life; the stepped look represented a Jedi padawan's ascent from a learner to a Jedi Master. Atop the Temple stood five council towers: the Council of First Knowledge advised on matters requiring the ancient wisdom of past Jedi; the Reassignment Council organized work for Jedi trainees who were not chosen to become a Padawan; the Council of Reconciliation sought peaceful resolutions to interworld disputes; the High Council had access to overall decision-making powers; and the central Temple Spire was a place for contemplation, and was regarded as the most sacred area of the Temple. The spires also contained advanced communications equipment, considered to be the most sophisticated on Coruscant. Below the towers - which made the Jedi Temple a kilometer in height, dwarfing the low-rise skyscrapers all around it - was a broad promenade, leading into the Temple. Jedi were often seen conversing outside the Temple, though Padawans were not usually allowed to venture any further, unless accompanied by a Master or on a special excerise to develop their skills. This Temple Precinct held many additional buildings and accomodations, though much of a Jedi's took place within the Temple walls. |
