DEJARIK HOLOGAME

   Type: Dejarik holochess game
   Manufacturer:
Dejarik Entertainment Company
   Owner: Various
   Uses: Holographic pastime
   Features: Board, holographic pieces
   Debut: A New Hope

Though the origins of dejarik were mired in controversy, it still remains a popular game throughout the galaxy. It also featured some of the galaxy's rarest creatures as its holographic playing pieces.
The game of dejarik is fairly simple; it pits two teams of assorted creatures against each other in a classic contest of matched but differing abilities. Each player has skills and abilities for each creature, and try to destroy weaker opponents on the board. The creatures move around the board through a simple control panel on the side of the circular board, and attack enemy creatures. The winner is the player who defeats all of their opponent's monsters. Other hologames can also be played on the dejarik table, and official tournaments were set up; two of the reasons why it is still so popular across the galaxy. However, animal rights activists first criticized the game for its use of rare creatures in the virtual battles.

Chewbacca installed a dejarik board in the lounge of the Millennium Falcon, and would either play the game against its built-in AI or against any sentients that were brave enough to withstand the Wookiee's temper should he lose. During the flight to Alderaan, Chewbacca played against R2-D2 while the Falcon was in hyperspace, though the droid very nearly ended up in pieces after making a move the Wookiee disapproved of.
