"Will somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way?" - Princess Leia, ANH |
CHEWBACCA Species: Wookiee Born: 181 BE (200 BBY) Birthplace: Kashyyyk Homeworld: Kashyyyk, various Affiliation: Han Solo, Rebel Alliance, New Republic Weapon: Bowcaster Vehicle: YT-1300 light stock freighter Millennium Falcon Significant Others: Attichitcuk (father) Mallatobuck (wife) Lumpawarrump (son) Lowbacca (nephew) Han Solo (partner) Debut: A New Hope Death: The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime Though his immense size presented a creature of great strength and power - and rightly so - Chewbacca was actually a kind, gentle being under his shaggy exterior. Chewie was a courageous Wookiee hero all his life, from his smuggling days with Han Solo, through his valiant efforts in the Rebellion, up to his heroic last stand on Serpidnal. The brave and loyal Chewbacca left his homeworld of Kashyyyk when he was fifty standard years old, to explore the galaxy. Though the Wookiee race was known for its warrior attributes, even Chewie could not defeat the might of the Empire. He was captured and forced to work as a slave, though luckily for him, a young Imperial recruit named Han Solo, who resented slavery greatly, freed him - an action which cost him his career in the Imperial Navy. Chewbacca swore a life-debt to Han, and the two of them shared many adventures together, smuggling for numerous employers, usually involving daring escapes from Imperial patrols. Chewbacca never had any qualms about his new life, and even found time to get married to his fianc Mallatobuck back on Kashyyyk. Eventually, Chewie and Han found themselves in the Rebellion, after Chewie convinced Han to help the freedom fighters in their battle to destroy the Death Star. The smugglers were made heros - Chewie didn't even mind not getting a medal for his actions - and helped the Alliance through many conflicts. When Han married Leia Organa, Chewie's life-debt extended to Solo's family; he acted as a bodyguard for their three children whenever he could. This loyal protection never wavered, even in the face of death. On Serpidnal, Chewie put the life of Han's child before his own, by saving Anakin at the cost of his own life. Chewbacca stood defiant as Serpidnal's moon crashed down onto the planet. Chewbacca's life may have ceased, but his memory would never fade. |
