The signature white armour of the Republic clonetroopers was a magnificent sight to behold whether it was paraded on Coruscant or used in the thick of battle...though the durable body armour would later inspire awe and terror as the Imperial stormtroopers were born.
Consisting of 20 form-fitting plastoid-alloy composite plates, sealed to a temperature-control body glove via magnatomic gription panels, the clonetrooper armour was one of the toughest suits at the time. Created by the Kaminoans, the species who were responsible for creating the clonetroopers themselves, the armour was durable but uncomfortable. As the Kaminoans were not fully versed in human ergonomics, the armour was bulky and uncomfortable to sit in. However, the clones were bred to ignore the discomfort. The armour wasn't entirely the Kaminoan's own design; as Jango Fett was the DNA template for the clones, the Kaminoans incorporated elements of his Mandalorian armour into their clonetrooper armour - displayed by the T-shaped visor - though a pressurized black body suit replaced the Mandalorian flightsuit, and the helmet was adapted with enhanced breath filters.
Though the armour was designed early in the cloning project, it didn't see its first battle until ten years after the order was placed. Led by Master Yoda, the clonetroopers attacked the Seperatist world of Geonosis, where their advanced armour proved useful in the rocky wastes and dust storms. The battle was coordinated flawlessly, with the clones being able to communicate via the comlinks built into their helmets. The Confederacy was routed, and the clonetroopers fought on. However, around the end of the Clone Wars and during the rise of the Empire, the armour was given a new look that would become infamous across the galaxy.... |
