RECENT EVENTS

2004 Southeast Spring Games

The 33nd Annual Special Olympics Kansas Southeast Spring Games were held  at Pittsburg State University . on April29th after being delayed by rain.   425 athletes competed in the track and field competition.  The days events started with the Opening Ceremony and Parade of Athletes.  The events concluded with the 4 X  100 relays.  Over 1200 individuals attended the days events, including athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and family members.  Dr. Bryant, Pittsburg State University President, was on hand to welcome the athletes and start the events.
2004 Southeast Bowling Tournament
The Special Olympics Kansas Southeast Bowling Tournament was held on  in Pittsburg, Kansas.  Numerous athletes competed in the 2 day event and fun was had by all.  On the first day the volleyball competiton was held with 14 athletes competing.  Also on Thursday, youth competedin bowling and on Friday, adults competed in bowling.  There were a total of over 475 athletes competiting in bowling.

Special Olympics Challenge Day
A new event to Special Olympics, Challenge Day, was held at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center,   Challenge Day is for individuals with severe mental retardation, limited mobility and/or multiple disabilities.  All athletes who participate are awarded for their participation, not placement in an event.  Athletes work on skill development as well as socialization and sportsmanship.

2004 Christmas Dance
Athletes, coaches, families and volunteers enjoyed a great time at the annunal Special Olympics Kansas Southeast Christmas Dance held at Pittsburg State University.  Dances are also being held in Chanute and Coffeyville.

2004 Individual Skills Tournament
The 20034Individual Skills Tournament was hosted by the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center .  The event included 3-point, free throw, and individual skills.  There were 152 athletes in attendance.  We would especially like to than the Labette Community College women's basketball team and Coach Josh Matthews for their help.

2004 Sports Camp
Over 100 youth age athletes and 150 adult athletes competed in Equestrian, Bocce, Aquatics adn Power Lifting during the 2 day competition.  It was a very fun adn rewarding competition for all that attended.
