2003 WORLD SUMMER SPECIAL GAMES
    The 2003 World Summer Special Games will be held in Dublin, Ireland, June 14-30 2003.  The USA has been alloted a quota of 900 athletes, as Special Olympics Team USA, to the 2003 Games.  The SOKS Southeast has a quota of two athletes.  The two athletes representing the Southeast Area are Karen David, from Connections in St Paul, and Jim Rodabaugh, Pittsburg.

CASH CONTRIBUTIONS OF $250 OR MORE
    SOKS Accounting Procedures require that Local Programs send a written receipt for all donations received by the Program.  However, it is important to understand that IRS regulations require that cash donations of $250 or more are acknowledged by the receiving charity.
    
Acknowledgement must be written and include:
          1.  The amout of cash contributed;
          2.  Whether the organization gave thd donor any goods
                or services as a result of the contribution; and
          3.  A description and good faith estimate of the value
               of goods or services described in 2.
For IRS tax deduction purposes, any cash contribution of less than $250 the Donor can provide:
          1.  A canceled check or legible account statement
          2.  A receipt from the organizaton with name of the
               orginization, date and amount of contribution.

SPORTS CAMP EAST
    Sprots Camp East wi scheduled for July 10th - 12th, 2003 in Lawrence, KS.  Registration packets will go out in May, so be on the lookout.  For more details, contact Susan Krumm at the HQ Office.

SOUTH CENTRAL FUND RAISER
     The 1st Annual Special Olympics Poker Run will be held on May 4th.  Check in will be at 11 am at the Rivers Edge Bar and Grill.  The run will begin at noon and will end at 2 pm.  The registration is $15 per person and meals and door prize tickets are included in the registration fee.  For more info, contact Mitch Guthrie at 888-860-3409 or email at

SPORTS CAMP PARSONS
    There will be a Sport Camp the PSH&TC on May 15th & 16th.  The 22 and over will be the 15th and the 21 and under will be on the 16th.  There will be clinics in equestrian, swimming, power-lifting and others.  If a team would like to bring athletes, please contact Poke by Monday, May 12th.  Lunch will be provided.

    Special Olympics Kansas Southeast hours will be from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.

STATE SOCCER & BOCCE TOURNAMENT
    Packets have been distributed for the State soccer and bocce tournament which will be held September 27, 2003.  The registration deadline is September 5, 2003.  The Southeast area will host an adult Bocce Tournametn in Pittsburg on September the 12th.  If anyone would like to attend, contact Poke by September 5th, 2003.

GRANTS AND FUNDRAISING FORMS

     Just a reminder to fill out your fundraising forms 60 days prior to a fundraising event.  This is done in an effort to keep Headquarters informed and to minimize comfusion over legitimate fundraisers.  Having the form on file will ensure that the Headquarters staff cam verify and lend merit to the fundraiser.  However, these forms do not have to be filled out if it is a Headquarters endorsed fundraiser (ie., P&G, Cookie Dough).

2003 LETR

     The 2003 Law Enforcement Torch Run is in full swing.  The two Polar Bear Plunges raised a total of more than $35,000.  Donations are curently being taken for LETR hats and t-shirts throughout the state.  Chili' Grill and Bar will host "Tip-a-Cop" at their ten Kansas locations on Wednesday, May 7.  100% of your tip on the 7th will be donated to Special Olympics Kansas.  On Wednesday, May 28th, Kansas Cracker Barrell restaurants will host "Tip-a-Cop".  On April 26th, from 8 am-5 pm, Car-Quest Distribution Center in Shawnee will host a garage sale and automotive swap meet. The BIG Walleye Tournament will be held at El Dorado lake on Saturday, May 17th.  Last but not least, the actual TOrch Run will be the week of June 2-6 with the final leg taking place in Wichita on the June 6th.   For information on the LETC, call Shauna Marcotte at 800-467-4658
