Receiver
The receiver is a small electronic box in the airplane.  It contains a small microprocessor that the takes the signal sent from the transmitter and decodes it.  The receiver that sends out signals to control the servos in the plane.  The receiver needs to be set to use the same frequency as the trasmitter.   This is done by using a set of crystals.  One is plugged into the receiver and one is plugged into the transmitter there are many different types of crystals and they are not all compatible with each other.  So only a set a crystals that are purchased together should be used together.
Picture of a typical receiver
Both the receiver and servos need power.  This is generally supplied by arechargeable NiCad battery.  Most radio systems also come with a NiCad battery for the transmitter and a charger that will recharge both batteries.
