How an R/C Airplane Works
The R/C in R/C airplane stands for radio controlled.  Although the R/C airplane control fundemental works the same as other R/C toys such as cars, R/C airplanes are much more advanced and they are generally not thought of as toys.  If fact some R/C ariplanes can be quite dangerous.  That is way it is important to understand all the aspects of an R/C ariplane before attempting to fly one

Overview of the functionality

R/C airplanes come in many different varieties.  They can have an electric motor or a gas engine.  Some have propellers while others are gliders.  They come in all sizes some are as small as your hand but others are as big as real planes.  The one thing they all have in common is that they are controlled by an operator on the ground with a radio.  The operate can control the direction and speed of the plane by moving joysticks on their radio.  The radio then transmits a signal on a predetermined radio frequency band.  A receiver in the airplane reads the signals in the determined band and decodes them.  The receiver then sends out signals to the servos in the airplane that control the mechincal movement of everything in the plane from the alerion to the landing gear.  In this way the operator is able to make the plane take off, do loops and other stunts, as well as land.
