Servos
Servos are basically bidrectional motor.  The servos produce the mechanical movements that are used to control RC airplanes.  The servos are conected to the receiver and to parts of the airplane.  The receiver sends signals to the servos the serovs use these signals to determine the position of the servo motor which in turn controls the position of the attached control surface.  Different types of servos are needed to control different parts of the airplane.  For instance the kind of servo needed to control the throttle position is different then the kind used to adjust the rudder.  The picture below shows three different types of servos.
