| There are many different types of engines that can be used to power RC airplanes. They include electric motors and petrol engines but the most commonly used engines are 2 and 4 stroke glow engines. Glow engines come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The type used is dictated largely by the size and design of the airplane. If a engine is not large enough it might not be powerfully enough to keep the plane in the air. If it is too large then the weight of the engine will throw the balance of the airplane off and it won't fly well if at all. Most manufactors of RC airplane kits provide a list a recommended engines for their airplane. Advanced fliers sometimes use engines that are not on the recommended list but it the right modifications are not made this could spell disaster for the airplane. |
