| Throughout your career as a scout, you will swiftly learn that base killing was not one of the aspects implemented when the first scout was built. Due to the chain gun doing a small amount of damage, the fuel diminishing in the blink of an eye, and simply not having the ability to shoot pulse shells scouts simply cannot charge into the base and tear it apart as a tank could. Therefore, the scout must use stealth tactics to get in close and take ou the necessary turrets. Aside from the flak turret posing a threat from afar however, there is the one unit that could sufficiently rip your scout hide out in two seconds flat. The gun turret, slow turning and holding only a short distance, is the second turret to compliment the flak turret in defending bases. When it comes down to it, gun turrets are spectacular in defense. Although their turning is slow, the shots they fire out at around 450m literally spray and can make critical hits even when not aiming directly at you. In the scout, your only defense is to attack. However, a head on assault will always leave you in a pile of dust on the ground. To successfully kill a gun turret, you must first learn which way it is pointing. Once this is achieved by simply scouting and zooming in to check you can make the fast break required for success. To do so, you need to begin by sweeping wide of the base and coming behind or at least to the side of where the gun turret is pointing. Coming up to the region of the enemy base, you will be required to burn a small amount of fuel to quickly burst up on the gun turret. (Note: This strategy will most likely not work if another gun turret in the vicinity can see you.) After this mad dash at 500m, simply wait until you reach around 200m and then see which way the gun turret is swiveling to face you. If it is coming one way, simply strafe the other way. In this way, you can easily get behind the gun turret and eliminate it. The only downfall to this technique is if there are other turrets nearby. One solution for that is simply enough however. If there is a flak turret able to hit you while you shoot the gun that means that it is fairly far away from the gun turret itself. Therefore, you should be able to come up on the flak turret by means of a hill or depression without the gun turret(s) seeing you and destroy it. If all else fails when it comes to strafing around a gun, simply snatch up a thumper missile or two and nail it in the back for a spin. |
