But as I got older I abandoned country and went into the mainstream for a while. This is most notable with my great decision to be a huge Ricky Martin fan. Honestly, he is an incredible performer, and has fun music to dance to. But I was looking for substance...and I found it.
Around the end of his 1999-2000 reunion tour with the E Street Band, I picked up on Bruce Springsteen. I had always known about him, being from Jersey and all, but never really got too serious with his music. It was defnitely one of the biggest influences on my life.
From 2002-2003, Bruce toured on the heels of his successful album "The Rising." It was great to be able to be alive for a new Springsteen release. Over that year he toured I went to 16 shows.
In the summer he played 10 sold out shows at Giants Stadium, and I was at every one. Definitely the best summer of my life.
Through Bruce I got into other artists as well. I became a huge fan of Bob Dylan very quickly, and have seen him in concert twice. Although I can't understand what he's saying, the man is a legend and has also been an influence on me.
After seeing his "Hurt" video, I fell in love with the music of Johnny Cash. His passing in September of 2003 was the first celebrity death that I was saddened by, as he was truly a hero to me. The Man in Black will surely be missed.
Let's not forget The Beatles, who were kind enough to pose for my opening page picture. These guys are the pioneers of rock and roll, and have made some of the best music ever. They've been broken up for 33 years now, but are still the most popular band in the world...that's saying something.
Because of my great interest in music, I recently got back into playing guitar. For a few months I had a small acoustic band going, but that didn't last too long although it was a lot of fun. I took vocals, guitar and harmonica...it is something I want to do again very soon.
