WHAT'S NEXT, SIR ROBSON

04.10.02                                                                                                                                                                 Previous Page

The inexperience Newcastle lost 0 - 2 to seasoned campaigner, Juventus in thee Champions League on Tuesday. There is no shame. Just remorse and frustration in every fan's heart. When are the Magpies (Newcastle's nickname) going to get the 1st Champions League point, the fans might ask.

The Magpies will have to improve their game and start winning consecutive games in the English Premier League (EPL) if they are to have a fruitful season ahead.  Teams like Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool perform consistently in the EPL and get the chance to mix with the best of Europe season after season.

To hope for any success in Europe, Bobby Robson should help the Magpies focus on doing well in the EPL. Just look at Arsenal whose rich vein of form in the EPL has rubbed onto their Champions League performance. The Gunners has won all their games in Champions League so far.

Newcastle has a decent squad to challenge the best of EPL but Newcastle's inconsistent performance has prevented it from topping the EPL. Key players like Dyer, Bellamy, Solano and Robert need to perform consistently and instill more composure in their play.

As in the match between Man City and Newcastle this season, the key players performed badly and Newcastle lost the game 1 - 0 though they had numerous opportunities in front of goal.

Dyer needs to be consistent

In that game, Solano was off form and could not cross properly. Dyer had about 3 good chances to score but could not convert them. Shearer was helpless as the other Newcastle players could not provide him with any decent service.

To be a good team, Newcastle need to play with better consistency and more composure. A good start to improving their season would be a win over West Bromich on Saturday. Come on Newcastle, win this one for your fans.
