Freedom From Sexual Addiction, From Any Addiction It Sounds to Good to Be True, but Christ Truly Paid for Your Freedom! You're here because you've had enough. You keep asking yourself, "How can I get free?" First, I do pray that you've come here from and have read the page "For the Hurting Christian." Sexual addiction (pornography, etc) may appear to you to be the almost "inescapable sin." Unlike other sins, you've, perhaps, felt that there's no way to get "away from yourself;" that you can't get away from those influences that draw you to more sexual sin such as on TV, magazines or movies. You feel so trapped as the promotion of sex is everywhere. Yes, today, sex is used to promote almost everything. You have felt hopeless. You may have tried almost everything to end those ungodly desires. In other times, people have locked themselves up, gone to monastaries or have even flogged themselves to try to end those lusts. The Good News is that Christ has dealt with your "self" on His Cross. He killed it off!!! The Eye Gate Do you remember the first time you saw a picture that excited you? Well, that was your entrance into the realm of becoming a slave to sexual sin. Sadly, many young boys are becoming enslaved at even younger ages due to accessability to such programming as on HBO and the broadcast networks. Children today are virtually sitting ducks due to media filth. That may have been your entry point to pornography, too. So much for the virtues of the old TV programs like Father Knows Best. Sin and Satan's Goal for You Satan's goal is to keep you trapped in your addiction. His goal is to make you feel like a hypocrite, powerless and consequently of little value to yourself, your family, church and the kingdom of God. The Church - Off Base Sadly, the modern churches' methodolgy to attempt to set the person free from sexual addiction has been something far less than freeing. More of everything from counseling, prayer, friend and "buddy systems" have left the addicted person far less than free. Jesus' Goal for You - Freedom John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Two verses earlier Jesus spoke about those who sin are slaves to sin. The cycle of sin - repent - sin is not freedom. Jesus said He came to make you free. The Greek word for our English translation, make free, means to liberate, make exempt from. By example, do you get up in the morning uncontrollably lusting to rob a bank? No! You're free of that lust. You have no desire to rob a bank. That is the same freedom Jesus paid for on His cross for you concerning sexual sin. He came to liberate you - to take away all your sin. Think of God Almighty loving His creatures so much that He became one of them, and beyond that He became the literal "Divine Garbage Hauler" of this world's sin. He took ALL your sin on His Cross. How to Walk Desire Free of Sexual Temptation and Lust Now, I hope, that all sounds good to you, but you are asking, how do I become desire free of this debilitating sin? The answer is in allowing the Holy Spirit to go to work on your behalf. You must realize that you can DO NOTHING to overcome this horror other than by believing what Christ did on the cross for you. When you put your faith in the fact that Jesus took all you sexual sins (or any other addiction) and perverse desires on Himself at the Cross, that allows the Holy Spirit to go to work on your behalf. Years of struggle and failure will end when you finally allow the Spirit to fight the battle. It doesn't matter what the sin is: ambition, pride, envy, selfishness, judgementalism, anger, alcohol, drugs, anxiety, poor treatment of others, bad temper, covetousness, denominational racism, superiority or inferiority, abusiveness, swearing, theft, fear, insecurity… - allow the Holy Spirit to work on your behalf. Gal 5:17 For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. Gal 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to freedom! |
