Reflection
Classroom management is probably what concerns me the least about going into a high school classroom. There will always be chaotic class periods, and some days may be downright lousy with misbehavior, but showing your students caring, enthusiasm, consistency, and your faith in them will make your classroom a safe place for the students to be. As with many other aspects of teaching, getting to know the students is very important to having a successful classroom. Many of the strategies for classroom management discussed in the course had been strategies I have used in working with adolescents for many years. It is so good to know that they will work in the classroom if implemented correctly. The current focus on "management" rather than "discipline", like when I was in school, should help lessen the fear and increase the respect in the class. Withitness will not be difficult for me, nor will consistency. As in many things, however, prevention of problematic behaviors is the key!
