Students must feel comfortable at school if we are to expect excellence from them. Students in fear will not be focused on success, but on survival. My classroom is a place that harbors fairness and equality. Students feel safe confiding in me. I begin the day by greeting each student at the door, inviting them to learn. My classroom is designed to be “home-like” and comfortable so students feel free to express their concerns in a non-threatening manner. My door is always open during production period (an activity/study hall time on our block schedule) and many students take advantage of this time to speak with me about any concerns (academic or otherwise they may have).
