Personhood Training given to SK Youth of Nagcarlan, Laguna
April 1, 2003 -
11:02AM |
Have you
ever tried Menudong gulay? Imagine a dish cooked like sopas(milky)
with a lot of veggies and crushed nuts. Yes you heard me, nuts. I
thought my tummy will go crazy because of these weird ingredients
mixed together. Menudong gulay was what we had for lunch during our
training on the topic of "Personhood" given to SK youth of Brgy.
Alumbrado Nagcarlan, Laguna last March 29-30, 2003.
Personhood
was the 2nd installment of the series of trainings that will be given
to the young people of Brgy. Alumbrado. The module focused on
self-discovery and self-consciousness w/ sub-topics on family and
value formation. The 3rd training which is 'Visioning' will be
sponsored by the Youth Accompaniment Program of ASI set anytime in
May,2003.
Going back
to the Menudong gulay, I'm thinking if the site should put up a page
to feature dishes the web master has tasted during his field work:)
We'll even include step-by-step procedures on how to cooking them.
Sounds fun:)

12:40PM |
Nope!
you are not looking at the latest version of the last supper. They are
the speakers of Youth Speak no. 3 at the Phil. Normal University.
With the
theme : "Filipino Youth Values in the midst of Globalization", the
Philippine Normal University with the Students and Educators for
Empowerment and Community Development (PNU-SEED) hosted the 3rd
installment of the Youth Speak Series last February 20, 2003 at the
PNU Conference Room. Former Senator Letisha Shahani, now Secretary for
Cultural Affairs graced the event as Keynote Speaker. She gave her
thoughts on Globalization and challenged everyone to work together and
promote initiatives such as Youth Speak in empowering the youth.

UP-Manila
hosts Youth Speak no. 2
March 22, 2003 -
12:34PM |

by:
Joana Paola M. Espinoza
Be heard. This seems to be the message last February 10, 2003 at the
forum entitled "Ang Alamat ng Lawin: The Youth Speak about the Current
Exodus of Filipino Nurses to Foreign Countries" conducted by the
Publicity and Issues Committee of the Nursing Student Council from the
University of the Philippines - Manila. It was conducted at 02:30 PM
on the UPCN Auditorium.
The forum tackled the timely crux regarding the exodus of Filipino
Nurses. It is quite apparent that with their recent shortage of
professional nurses, progressive nations like the United States and
England have turned to the common practice of importing professionals
from neighboring states. The Filipino Nurse, with her caring nature
and natural competence, is an obvious target for such importation.
With the attractive salaries and provisions that enable the whole
family to be immigrated with you,
Filipino nurses grab the chance to hop to greener pastures leaving our
own country lacking of health care professionals. Indeed, this issue
will soon become a national crisis.

Kuwentong
Bulilit Awarding at Cardona, Rizal
March 22, 2003 -
11:05AM |

by:
Florinda Inoturan
When the
Pope challenged the youth in 1995 to do something relevant and
concrete for the betterment of society, the four founders of the
Kilusan para sa Kinabukasan initiated that a booklet of stories
published. Pamanang Pambata was the brainchild of the said four
students from St. Scholastica's College - Manila. During that time,
the most pressing issue was illiteracy. From there, they have pooled
their talents and resources to come up with a collection of short
stories, songs, poetry and activities. This book has been distributed
nationwide through the network of the Asian Social Institute.
Since then, the organization has been working toward a second book.
This is how Kwentong Bulilit was launched, as a story-writing contest
for grades 4 - 6. There were two schools that participated, San
Francisco Parish School and Lunsad Elementary school. The stories were
to be written in Filipino. Of the stories that have been collected,
seven stories for each school were short listed. These stories were
then rated and later ranked by three credible judges. These judges
were highly qualified in terms of their mastery of the Filipino
language and their discernment of creativity and originality. The top
three students from each school were selected.
