RESERVING RATS

Once a litter is of an age where colour and markings are evident, I post photos to my litters page, and definite reservations can be made. First choice from any litter will be myself, followed by those on my waiting list.

I do maintain a waiting list, and endeavour to keep my Planned Litters page updated, so that people can reserve a particular colour or marking.

Unless you currently own rats of the same gender of that which you have reserved, all rats will be sold in same sex pairs. Rats are colony animals, and do far better in multiple numbers. Having more than one rat does not detract from their interaction with you. Please have this in mind when reserving rats. If, for whatever reason, numerically it is not possible for the babies to go in same sex pairs, I will endeavour to find you a suitable pal for your pet.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS

To adopt one of my rats, you must be 18 years or over, OR have your parents' permission

Adopters will be required to sign an Adoption Contract, which ensures that you will provide proper handling, care, feeding and housing for the lifetime of any and all rats adopted from me.

Please do some reading prior to adoption, and have your cage and supplies ready BEFORE you collect your rat/rats.

PICKING UP YOUR NEW RATS

On my Litters Page, I will post a date from which babies can be collected. This is usually about 5-6 weeks of age, depending on the size of the litter.

Please email me for a time and date on which to collect your new pets. I am available both during the week and on weekends.

Make sure you bring along a sturdy cage or carrier in which to transport your new pets. Cardboard boxes are NOT suitable, as rats and great chewers, and I would hate to think of a baby rats escaping and running through your car whilst you are driving. If a cage, the bars must be 1cm apart or less - anything wider and it may be possible for the baby to squeeze out. You should include litter, bedding (something soft) a little food (I will provide) plus, if a long trip is ahead, a water bottle.

Occasionally, rats will sneeze whilst they are adjusting to new air, smells and bedding. Please keep in mind that rats, like people, can develop allergies to bedding, cleaning products etc. NEVER use pine or cedar shavings as bedding. The Care Sheets supplied by myself list appropriate litters which are problem free.

If, two weeks after the adoption date posted on the Litters Page has passed, and you have made no effort to contact me regarding pick-up, I will unreserve that baby and place it with another family. Please keep this in mind - and stay in touch!
