Rules of the Challenge
- Home Rules Design Construction Testing
Overview
|
This is a summary of the rules for teams entering the Challenge.
The rules have been kept as simple as possible and are designed to allow
plenty of freedom to innovate and develop participants’ skills.
Here you will find information about categories of entry, team composition, vehicle
requirements, entry fees,
awards, and events in the Challenge.
These rules represent our current format for the Challenge, but Kiwi
HPV reserves the right to make changes to these rules if required by future
circumstances. Our aim will be to maintain as much as possible of
the format described here and elsewhere on this CD.

Events
|
The HP Challenge will consist of three events: the drag race, the cargo race and the endurance race.
|
|
Drag Race
|
Pairs of vehicles will
race from a standing start over a 200m course. Points will be awarded for the fastest time each vehicle
can achieve. |
|
Cargo Race
|
Pairs of vehicles will race
to carry a collection of goods from one place to another, in the shortest
possible time. The goods will consist of things such as plastic bottles
of drink, a carton of eggs, and a broom. There is no limit to the number
of vehicle trips required to shift the goods. Time penalties
will be incurred for breakages, spills or dropping things.
|
|
Endurance Race
|
All vehicles will race
around a circuit for a period of one hour. The object is to complete
as many laps as possible before the time is up. Riders can change as
often as you want, and every team member must have a reasonable share of
the riding. There is no time out for pit stops for changes or repairs.
An hour may not sound
like a long time, but in previous Challenges, it has been quite long enough
for vehicles to start breaking, and requiring repairs to stay in the race.
