Welcome to Kheru, the Voice of PiRamesses.

  Letter From The Editor

Thank you for visiting the latest Edition of Kheru, Dear Readers!!!!

This edition of Kheru was very difficult to put together but a challenge that I nonetheless enjoyed. Though it is late, I hope you will agree that the end result of my efforts was worth the wait! ~S~

As you may no doubt know, all of PiRamesses has been in mourning for the Queen and Vizier Swanlara Ramesses. Since this has been such a focal point in the role-play for such a long time, I thought it would be a good idea to include an article in Kheru about the funerary rites of the Ancient Egyptians. I therefore wrote an essay covering the mortuary rites and the funerary literature that the Ancient Egyptians found to be indispensable in their rituals for the dead. You will find a link to it in the left-hand column of this edition of Kheru.

The Egyptians believed that a proper burial must include the preservation of the physical body and the texts that the deceased person's Ka needed to use as a guide to traverse the Amduat and emerge unscathed in the land of the Blessed called the Field of Reeds. Some scholars have interpreted this blessed netherworld to be somewhere in the extreme Western regions of the sky and therefore in some sense a heavenly abode somewhere beyond (or a literal part of) the stars. Please read my article to find out more about this fascinating subject.

Somewhat related to this subject is the article about Sopdet in this issue by Anukis. Sopdet (aka: Sirius, the dog star) was a very important star goddess in Ancient Egypt who was strongly linked to the constellation of Orion. Orion was known as Sah to the Ancient Egyptians, and was believed by them to personify the god Osiris.

  Kheru Special Features:

This edition of Kheru features some wonderful reviews on three online friends get-togethers that occurred recently as well as two new web sites. The three get-togethers are covered by the first 3 links in the left column of Kheru. I hope you enjoy reading about the wonderful real life people behind some of the role play characters some of us have grown to know and care for as well as the circumstances under which they met.

The first web site featured below was made by me, Seshat Sithathor! It is my Midwifery and Physician's Office and consists of two pages, the first one showing the talismans and magical charms used to ward off evil and protect expectant and nursing mothers and their babies and children. The second page deals with what an Egyptian physician looks for in determining a person's overall health and the treatment for any ailments.

On the second page of my Physician's Office there is a detailed listing of all herb and plant medicines possibly used in Ancient Egypt at one time or another. I hope you will find this virtual herbal apothecary both entertaining and educational.

The next featured Web page was created by Betinas Mutemwiya. It is an imaginative voyage into what an Ancient Egyptian Bath House would have been like if it were designed to aid in HEALING!

There are four pages altogether included in this holistic bathing experience. Don't miss the Aromatherapy page! It is fun to read and informative too.

NOTE: Do you have a great web page that you would like to have featured in Kheru? If so, please send me the URL to your page! I will review it for possible inclusion in the next edition of Kheru and contact you to get a copy of your banner for the page if it is selected. ~Seshat~

  NEW!
To Become Regular Features:

Yes, we have two great new features in this edition of Kheru. The first is "The Oracle of Osiris," a virtual oracle direct from the netherworld who can give answers to all your questions! :-)

After seeing the Oracle's interesting answers to this edition's questions, why not send in a question of your own c/o Kheru so it can be answered in the next edition of the newspaper? Group participation in this exciting new feature is encouraged - so don't delay!

  Nomarch News:
