(April Issue)
4/1-
The government's proposing to set up a central
facility for the killing, chilling and packaging
of live poultry. It's one of the measures outlined
in a consultation document to be released tomorrow
aimed at segregating live birds from humans. If
the central slaughter house option is adopted,
there'll be no live chickens for sale in the territory;
and the retailing and wholesale trades will be
practically wiped out. Another option is to set
up five to six so-called regional centres for
slaughter.
