Bands



Since Parachute began, hundreds of bands have played at Parachute. There are always bands that have played there before, bands that are new to Parachute, and on the Atomic Stage, bands that are making their debut. Performers are not just bands, although the majority of performers are. Dancers, solo artists and DJ's may also be a part of the programme at Parachute. For example:

  • In 2003 Andy Hunter, an English DJ, led a two hour dance party from 10-12pm at Parachute.
  • In 2003 a number of dance groups performed, including Jireh (who are now based in Australia), Pulse and Estarr.
  • There have been a number of solo artists that have performed in the past, including Steve Apirana and TobyMac.
  • Parachute always brings in some really good speakers. In 2002 we were able to listen to Darrell Scott (the father of Cassie Scott, murdered in the Columbine High School shooting) and in 2003 we were able to listen to Sy Rogers and Tony Campolo, who are both international-level speakers.

Bands that have played in the past include:

  • Pillar, a group of four men from America who have released some awesome songs, and their album, "Firestorm" is great.
  • Out of Eden, a group of three sisters that have sold over a million albums and are from America. Andrea, one of them, had a baby girl in May of 2003, and the other two sisters are still single.
  • TobyMac, a previous member of DC Talk (who are now working on solo projects) who is into rap music and enjoys performing with his 5 year old son.
  • The Newsboys, a group that has been together for years, they have released a number of hits including Shine, Adoration and Breakfast. They have released a number of albums, including their recent "Shine, the remix" and "Adoration."
  • Delirious?, a band from the UK that played at Parachute in 2002. Their song "History Maker" brought the house down. They have played at a number of large venues, including Wellesley Stadium in England.
