| When talking about African Americans and the Film Industry: IS IT BETTER TO HAVE A GLASS CEILING OR A WOODEN ROOF? |

| A wooden roof has a clear picture of where it begins and ends. The film industry in earlier times could be thought of as wood. African Americans as well as Caucasians knew just how far blacks could go within the industry. The career path of an actor/actress was never unclear but set forth in stone. With visual barriers in place, most people would not have hopes of one day receiving a more popular role. As a direct result to the laws passed on equality, a glass ceiling has been created. Glass allows one to look ahead at all of the possible alternatives on that path. Here the theme is to reach for the stars where people are told no obstacles exist in their way, meaning that their success is dependent on them. Barriers exist within the industry for the same reasons they were initially created, but it is not known how far you can go before you encounter one. Now the question is, which is worse: To be told that your efforts to succeed are limited regardless of your talents or to be encouraged to try harder by people who already have predetermined how far they will allow you to go. |

| What is the "Color Complex"? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This website was created to counter the assumption, that color barriers no longer exist especially in film. It is not an answer of how to improve roles but just adding insight to the reasons some are created. Let us start at the beginning with the need for one culture to cause division between another through the use of skin color, COLOR COMPLEX. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
