These birds also live in the marshes. They barely fly and then it is at a low level. They are usually coloured bronze, black, white and green in ccombinations. They nest on floating vegetation. I've seen these at Carambolim. The Pheasant-tailed Jacana is the size of a partridge. It has a long pointed down-curving tail and is mostly white and brown. It eats oysters and mussels which it chisels out deftly from the shells. It also eats crabs and worms. It nests in sandbanks and lines its nest with shells and pebbles. The Bronzewinged Jacana is a leggy bird. It does not have a long tail, but it has a distinctive metallic green-bronze back and wings. It has enormous long spider-like toes. It eats like the moorhen - seeds, roots, molluscs etc.. It nests among the ruhes on a skimpily built nest. |
