    The Zuari Industries Limited Housing Colony is a virtual zoo.  Other than our conglomeration of two legged beasts ( of various sizes, hues and dispositions), we have quite a collection of the four legged and hundred legged and scaled ones too!

   Here are some that I have seen over the years.  I would be happy to learn of any others that may be lurking around in the undergrowth.

The jackal - 13^th November, 2002

            At Goa Shipyard, a jackal was found wandering around the colony over the fortnight..  People had been feeding it sweets because it seemed retty tame and unafraid.  Finally, it was tied and brought to Sumita�s backyard because people had begun to get worried about rabies nad little children being around.  The jackal was quite happy to sit under a table and be fed biscuits and sweets by anyone.

            In the evening, a forest officer from Campal came to take it away.  He figured that it had been reared a s pet for a while, and then abandoned.  The jackal had been joining the security staff for meals.  He was put into a sack with his head sticking out.  He was given a warm send-off by everyone and farewell gifts of sweets and fruit-cake.  He rode off pillion on the back of a motorbike.  He will be rehabilitated at the Bondla game reserve and hopefully will find a mate.
