When I came to Goa, and to Zuarinagar, several things struck me almost at once.

There is barely any air pollution! No grime on the towels, no bedsheets with black feet marks, no collar and cuff stains that need extra washing!  And my feet do not have to be scrubbed with a pumice stone to get them looking clean.
There is an amazing closeness to nature.  One gets to see amazing phenomena such as   ........................

* a rain cloud bursting over the sea and then moving inland.  I used to run into the verandah just ahead of the cloudburst, and watch as the raindrops pelted the roof.

* the mist suddenly blanketing the sea, rolling up the cliff face, and rolling over the lawn, and into the verandah.  This would suddenly clear, and leave droplets of water on our red table!  And we could see the sea and the fishing boats once more!

* the dolphins jumping out of the water, especially in the wake of a fishing boat.

* a lapwing getting territorial about our lawn.

* the sound of the breakers on a stormy night.

- there is no noise pollution and light pollution either - so one can see the stars clearly, and one can hear the different birdsongs.
- the Goans love their state - they prefer not to move out.  Understandable!!
And most important for me - I realised I wanted to document all this.

Hence the months of the year.

My special thanks to my favourite dirty old man, Khushwant Singh, for his beautiful book 'Nature Watch'.  It makes delightful reading.
