Cormorants are fish-eating water birds. They nest in colonies. They are black. They are expert divers and submarine swimmers, and are found in inland waters. One can see them in Carambolim and in the fields on the way to Panjim. Their nesting season in South India is usually November to February. The Little Cormorant is about the size of a jungle crow. It is a glistening black, has a longish stiff tail, and a long, slender flattened beak. The Larger Cormorant adult is black - this plumage is acquired from the fourth year. The imature cormorants are brownish above, and white below. The male and the female share domestic duties. |
