K. A. Kurlander's Costume Page

Created 1/29/01; overhauled 4/14/02; Projects pages updated 3/3/09

Click my Very Latest Projects page to view the Victorian and Edwardian garments I've made in late 2005 through 2009. (I've even updated my previous projects pages in a few places!) As usual, Newport Vintage Dance Week caused a panic of sewing. Afterwards, there was a long lull, but now the new year is making me want some new gowns. I had hoped for a lovely striped hoop gown, but a bad experience with mail-order fabric has put that on the very back burner. Update: I got my striped fabric, finally, though that project will have to wait a while until I can work out a pattern for a square-necked Civil War ball bodice. And I have a few other "want-to-haves" lined up again, so we'll see what emerges from the sewing room first.

Click my Latest Projects page to view the repro garments I've made since the summer of 2004. Click my Projects page to view other vintage outfits I've made. Many of these garments were created to support my vintage dancing hobby or my job at the local historical society. (Page and costumes constantly under construction!)

This page started as the electronic notebook of my weekly assignments for "The History of Costume," a University of Alaska-Fairbanks course I audited online.

Click here for information about the patented McDowell Garment Drafting Machine, which made the life of the nineteenth-century seamstress infinitely easier. An eBay seller even referred to my page in her auction description.
