CLIMB TO MT. MATUTUM
TRI-PEOPLE CLIMB TO MT. MATUTUM FOR UNITY
"Bantay Kalikasan ng Tri-People"

Date:To Be Announced
Venue: Mt. Matutum via Glandang trail

In consonance with KAAKBAY's slogan, "Bringing the torch of freedom and peace to our land", it is the intent of the pool of trainors of KAAKBAY - who had undergone a requisite course on the Basic Laws of Mountaineering - to climb Mt. Matutum and "light" this torch of freedom and peace at its peak, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in the organization's history. This shall also serve as an environmental-preservation activity, where the members of KAAKBAY, guided by the Dadiangas Maharlika Mountaineering Environmental and Outdoor Group (DMMEOG), shall conduct a tree-counting and clean-up drive.

At the foot of Mt. Matutum is a B'laan community that has been living in the area for a long time now. Their presence allows the trainors of KAAKBAY to have direct exposure and interaction with a community representative of the Lumad sector of the Tri-People. It is one way of deepening the trainors' understanding on the B'laan community's view in the concepts and beliefs regarding ancestral domain and their relationship with the land they are inhabiting. Such issues are part of the Culture of Peace Training. Also, of equal importance is the inculcation of the values that youth empowerment is a key component in effectively spreading the Culture of Peace sincerely throughout the land and that climbing Mt. Matutum - however back-breakingly hard - is much easier a task than spreading a Culture of Peace.
