TRI-PEOPLE CUP
THE TRI-PEOPLE CUP
A Literary, Visual Arts, And Academic Competition

"Inculcating Historical Awareness to the Youth of the Tri-People."

Date:To Be Announced
Venue: Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall,
General Santos City Hall

As part of KAAKBAY's noble search for that elusive genuine Culture of Peace and for the dissemination and proliferation of that vital element to the whole of Mindanao, if not to the array of islands consisting the Philippine archipelago, the current set officers and members wishes to launch The Tri-People Cup. This program of KAAKBAY shall be composed of three contests, namely: the Extemporaneous Speaking Contest, the Tri-People Quiz Bowl, and the Tri-People Painting Contest. These shall hopefully be participated by all the high school campuses found in General Santos City. Each school would field a contingent of their best talents who shall be representative of the tri-people youth, and shall then be divided into contestants for each category.

The basis for this program is the fact that, amidst the current growth of the tri-people youth in their respective chosen fields of endeavor, information campaigns regarding the effective means of promoting a culture of peace in the civil society, and programs giving emphasis on the history and evolution of the tri-people's respective cultures, they seem not to have been given proper value by some of the major sectors of the community. Bearing this in mind, the people of KAAKBAY realize the urgent need to expedite the launch of The Tri-People Cup. This activity will highlight the seemingly-nowadays-forgotten respective colorful historical backgrounds and meaningful cultural attributes of the Tri-People of Mindanao.

Each competing campus shall provide a five-man contingent to the Cup. These five shall be expected to actually represent the Tri-People of Mindanao. They shall also be required to wear their respective tribal attire during the contest proper.

Extemporaneous Speaking

This category shall have the most articulate and eloquent speaker of each competing high school campus extemporaneously orate in his/her best form a topic which shall be based on the Tri-People of Mindanao or on peace in the Mindanao setting. The first place winner shall be awarded a cash prize of PhP2,000.00. The second place winner shall receive a cash prize of PhP1,500.00. And the third placer shall collect a cash prize of PhP1,000.00. The lead facilitator for this category shall hopefully be Prof. Joanna Grace Banting, Chairman of the English Department of Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College.

The Tri-People Quiz Bowl

This category shall require a team of three (3) students from each competing high school campus who are representative of the Tri-People of Mindanao (Settler, Moro, and Lumad). Questions asked by the quizmaster shall be based on historical accounts and on facts and figures that are related to the Tri-people and to peace in the Mindanao setting. The team shall garner the first place shall be awarded a cash prize of PhP3,000.00. The team which shall place second winner shall receive a cash prize of PhP2,000.00. And the third placers shall collect a cash prize of PhP1,000.00. The quizmaster for this category shall be Mr. Allan Remedios, KAAKBAY-GSC Secretary-General and faculty member of the Holy Trinity College.

This category shall showcase the top painters from each competing high school campus who shall be asked to create an obra maestra of sorts that shall capably catch the image of the concept required of them by the lead facilitator which shall again be based on the Tri-People of Mindanao and of peace in the Mindanao setting. The first placer shall be receive a cash prize of PhP2,000.00. The second place winner shall receive a cash prize of PhP1,500.00. And the third place winner shall earn a cash prize of PhP1,000.00.
