IMMERSION PROGRAMS
Learning and appreciating other cultures and practices, engaging in community projects and attending seminars and training related to the eventual attainment of peaceful coexistence among the Tri-People of Mindanao may be tasks worth doing, but the actual immersion into communities representative of the Tri-People would definitely be a much different experience on its own, as it would give a person first-hand insights on the lifestyles of each community and would further enlighten a person on the present plight and challenges faced by them. This would clearly imbed further the values transformation earlier acquired in the trainings and seminars one had undertaken.
Immersion would take two forms:
- Immersions to the community (Lumad Filipino, Moro Filipino, Majority Filipino) by the members of KAAKBAY. If one belongs to the Majority Filipino sector, he or she could immerse into a Lumad and a Moro family for a few days, or if one belongs to the Moro Filipino sector, he or she could immerse into a Majority or a Lumad family for the same number of days, in order to appreciate and understand the uniqueness and similarities of the cultures, practices and traditions found therein. It is through this kind of exposure that a person could feel the sense of connection or relationship that the Tri-People of Mindanao has for each other.
- Observing the religious practices (Muslim, Protestant, Catholic, Others). In the same manner, it is vital that the religion practiced by each sector should be treated separately from what is cultural or traditional, since religion is the manner and process by which we practice our faith in Divine Providence. Without necessarily violating standing rules and regulations existing in each faith, a member of KAAKBAY would be encouraged to witness how each sector of the Tri-People practices its religion in the role of an observer. This method is viewed as a strong means of eradicating religious animosity.
