In support of the initiative of the NDDC Peace Education Center headed by Sister Andi Solar, KAAKBAY was involved in the planning and conduct of the Alay Kapayapaan Parade as marshals. This event saw close to four thousand (4,000) people congregate at the St. Paul's Cross Novitiate and walk the streets of General Santos City under the glaring heat of the sun to inaugurate the Mindanao Week of Peace. Among those who gave their all out support to this parade were the entire Holy Trinity College student body, led by HTC-SSC President and KAAKBAY Treasurer Jhanine Q. Villegas, and a good number of their faculty, several sections from the NDDC-IBED and the MSU-CETD (High School) campuses, a large contingent from the Mindanao Polytechnic College, Peace and Development Communities of the United Nations Development Program, and others. The order of parade was ably augmented by five drum and bugle corps. A program was subsequently held at the Oval Plaza where Bro. Wilfredo Lubrico, president of the Notre Dame of Dadiangas College, Mr. Manuel Yaphuckon, immediate past president of the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Atty. Virgilio Alconera representing Mayor Pedro B. Acharon, and Ms. Lovely Granada, youngest member of KAAKBAY-TPYD, gave their respective messages. This activity was jointly sponsored by the NDDC administration, the United Nations Development Program and the Catholic Relief Services.
