UN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
September 20, 2002
General Santos City

In coordination with the GOP-UN/MDP, ACT-SM Office, KAAKBAY launched a whole-day information campaign "calling on all the sectors of society in General Santos City and the SOCSKSARGEN area as a whole and invite all parties concerned to honor a cessation of hostilities for the duration of this day." "A cessation of violence and conflict throughout the world and the related importance of achieving the broadest possible awareness and observance of the International Day of Peace among the global community is vital to the very survival of humanity."

A "speakers bureau" was formed and visits to the different radio stations of General Santos City was made. A position paper containing the above-stated quotations was also formulated and mass-reproduced for general circulation. Streamers announcing the celebration of the International Day of Peace made by the GOP-UN/MDP, ACT-SM were also posted at strategic locations within the city. The "speakers bureau" also visited the Prayer Gathering for Peace organized by the Notre Dame of Dadiangas College Peace Education Center headed by Sister Andrea Solar (OND) and the NDDC Peace Partners, which also commemorated the International Day of Peace. KAAKBAY contributed their share in this activity. KAAKBAY believes that the widespread promotion of a culture of peace requires the mutual cooperation, support and coordination of all peace-advocating organizations in the area.
