There were at least four NORTHCUTTs in Mason County, Kentucky prior to 1800. Three of them, Margaret, Willis, and Shadrach appear to be siblings, but there is no evidence to verify this. Margaret was born about 1760 and married William HANCE. They lived in Mason County, Kentucky and in Miami County, Ohio. Willis was born Dec 1768 in South Carolina and married Eleanor "Nellie" or "Ellen" WILSON. They lived in Mason County, Kentucky, and Warren and Miami Counties, Ohio. Shadrach was born about 1774 in South Carolina and married Ruth RUNYON. They lived in Mason and Bourbon Counties, Kentucky, and in Champaign County, Ohio. A William appears at times in Mason County, and in Greene County, Ohio. (I believe this is the same person as Willis, as William and Willis are never listed together.) The fifth, Benjamin, was born 16 Jan 1770 in North Carolina or Virginia. He was the son of William NORTHCUTT and Sarah WILLIAMS.
Kentucky County, Virginia, was created in 1776 and effective in 1777. It covered most of the area included in the present State of Kentucky. In 1780, Kentucky County was divided into three counties, Jefferson (northwest), Lincoln (south & east), and Fayette (northeast). In 1786, Bourbon County was formed from Fayette County, covering most of the area of the parent county. In 1787, Jeremiah NORTHCUTT was living in Fayette County. In 1789, Mason County was formed from the eastern half of Bourbon County. In 1790, William was living in Mason County and in 1794, Willis was living in Mason County. In 1795, Benjamin was living in Mason County and George and John was living in Bourbon County. Another John was living in Madison County in 1795.
In 1796, Shadrach was living in Mason County.
