Itinerary
(with brief explanation):
This is the tour of the "István Dobó" Castle Museum, including Heroes' Hall; ruins of the former Cathedral; Casemates (Kazamata - underground passageways); panoramicc view of Eger.
Apart form the above the guided tour includes two of the following exhibitions of your choice:
  • Local History (in the Bishop's Palace building)
  • Picture Gallery
  • Dungeon (instruments of torture and execution in the Middle Ages)
  • Waxworks (wax figures of the main characters from the famous Hungarian novel - The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon by Gárdonyi). Additional entry fee applies, Adult: HUF 250; Student: HUF 150 (holders of International Student Cards)
Optional sights of interest: Various seasonal exhibitions during the year (in the Bishop's Palace building)
Castle entrance fees: Adult: HUF 600; Student: HUF 300 (holders of International. Student Cards)
Suggestions: After the tour why not sample the local vintage in the local wine-cellar, where you can also try your hands at archery!

The House of the novelist Géza Gárdonyi is nearby and open for visitors. (closed on Mondays)


Did you know?...

 ... The Waxworks Museum (Panoptikum) houses the wax figures of the main characters featured in the acclaimed Hungarian novel The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon, by Géza Gárdonyi (1863-1922) - relevant to the history of the Castle. The novel has been translated into over 20 languages, which is compulsory reading for elementary school children in Hungary. 'István Dobó' and 'Gergely Bornemissza' are the protagonists of the story.
