Chapter TWEE :::Many Meetings:::

The bite of the icy wind caught their attention. They surveyed the landscape, it was rugged. Soft hills rolled towards sharp towering mountains in the distance. Heavy snow covered the ground, weighing down the pine trees spotting the terrain.
To their left was a citadel, positioned on top of a rounded hill in the distance.
Jack turned around to inspect where they had come from. Snow packed down by livestock as far as the eye could see. No sign of being able to get back. Teal'c carefully inspected the snow in front of them. There were faint footprints.

"Daniel Jackson was here also. He was running from something. But there are no other tracks to indicate a follower," Teal'c said.

"Where'd he head?" asked Jack.

"Toward the village," answered Teal'c.

"The village it is!" Jack pointed gallantly at the village.

They made their way for the village, arriving at nightfall. Jack had managed to quietly slip in the odd (ok, NINE) chocolate bars.

They reached the walls of the citadel. They walked along the wall until they found a large gate.

"Oo goes dere?" a voice asked from behind the gate.

Teal'c stepped forward. "We are friends of the one known as Daniel Jackson,"

"Perhaps you?ve seen him round? He's tall, short brown hair, big round glass things on his eyes and sneezes a lot," Jack piped.

"Ah! You mean the elf of Balder the benevolent one! Come! Come in!" The voice cheered.

"Boulder the benevolent?" Jack muttered.

The large gate creaked and began to open. The group entered the citadel. They looked around for the gatekeeper but saw no sign of him.
Jack led the team up a well-worn dirt path. It would eventually lead them to a large hall.
They passed many long houses and huts as they walked up. Smoke softly puffing from small holes in the roof. The houses had thick wooden walls to keep the inside warm. Wooden planks supported the roofs and turf was place on top making it watertight. The smaller town houses had reed-thatched roofs.
Jack peeked inside one of the long houses and he couldn?t believe the way they lived here. There was a large room centered by a large fireplace. The walls were lined with hanging furs and benches. A woman sat on one of the far benches stirring something in a pot. She wore a stained red apron held on by a string of small silver medallions. She was singing a sweet and happy tune. Jack sat down next to her.
"What ya makin??" he asked.

The woman gasped, dropped her pot on the ground spilling its contents on the floor and ran out the far door. Jack left the long house and met up with his friends.

"Aren't they a sociable bunch?" Jack said sarcastically.

"It is a small community, sir. They are not used to visitors. Especially ones as strange as ourselves. Do not look for too much welcome here," Sam said.

They passed numerous citizens on the path to the hall, the group were met with suspicious looks and whispers. Even the ever-busy blacksmiths stopped hammering to look at the odd fellows. Small children hid their faces in their mothers dresses after seeing Teal'c's face of steel.
"They are of Loki! Here to bring pestilence upon our dear village! Banish them! Kill them before they?re evil does any damage!" screamed one man waving his axe at the team. He smelt like something awful and looked like it too. He dressed similar to everyone else, just smelt worse. "Be gone foul beings! Or I shall have to deal with you myself!" He yelled and raised his axe above them ready to strike.

Sg1 began to back away. Suddenly Daniel jumped out from behind the mad man. "It is alright, Ogstothe. They are friends. They will not hurt your village," Daniel said soothingly.

Ogstothe lowered his axe a little "but how am I to know you are to trust!? You came from beyond, just like them! You could be a spy amongst us! Plotting our downfall!"

A large hairy hand fell on Ogstothe?s dirty shoulder.
"If you do not trust Daniel, you will trust me. You do trust me don't you?" Said a strong man clad in gold and green robes.

"Of course I trust you O? Wise Chieftain Mjollnir! I am truly sorry!" said Ogstothe, and he slunk off.

Chieftain Mjollnir bowed to SG1. "I would apologise for Ogstothe he has never been the same since..." Mjollnir trailed off and sighed.
"I am Mjollnir! Come to my court! Where the food is good and plenty! You are welcome here now!?

They all headed up the steps of the hall. Its great wooden columns were wrapped in elaborate golden designs of flowers, vines, hounds and serpents. The heavy door was lined with gold. Mjollnir lead SG1 and the last of SG6 into a great hall. Tables and benches were beyond more large columns similar to the ones outside. At the far end of the hall was a large wooden throne, with Celtic knots around the edges, and three large red gems were situated at the head. As they walked across the hall Jack wove his way through the guards and his team to Daniel.
"Daniel. What the HELL is happening here?" Jack asked.

"Well, we're being taken to the seats next to the throne as we are of great importance," he responded.

"Daniel? you're not going to go Jonas Hansen on us are you? The gatekeeper said you were of a Boulder or something?"

"No! And its Balder, he was the Viking god of light, joy, innocence and reconciliation,"

"And why do these people think you're one of his helpers?"

"Oh umm, I helped them re-establish diplomatic relations with an old allied village that fell under an evil warlords control long ago,"

"My oh my you ARE a busy boy, Daniel. And how long have you been here? Five minutes?"Jack asked sarcastically.

Daniel ignored Jacks stupid comment. "I hope to make them become allies with that village once more,"

"Righteo then!" Jack said. "Where are we exactly?"

"Well, I take it you found the Asgard device in the cave? I have reason to believe it took us to a whole other planet."

"Well why can't it be PSC - 3539. It could just be on the other side of the globe that is all,"

"That could be true too. But there is no Stargate within a 1000 click radius of this villiage. And then there is a big ocean surrounding this place. I don't think we can get home."

"I told Teal'c to bring the controlling device for the 'door', could that possibly help us get back?" asked Jack.

"It could do. But, I have an urge to see this through, please Jack, can we stay for a little while," begged the archaeologist.

"Alright alright!" he said.

Daniel jumped for joy. They had reached the throne. And some assistants of Mjollnir brought out four more chairs. Charlie noticed that below the three gems of the throne was a reverse hemisphere, as if it had lost its jewel. SG1 and Charlie were shown to their seats.

Jack ran his fingers over his chair's simpler Celtic designs. It had a familiar feeling to it. It was not wood. It felt more like a stone.

Sam lent over towards Daniel. "Who or what is Loki?" she asked.

"Uhh, Loki was a Viking god of Mischief and Evil things. He would often play tricks on the gods or the people,"

"Oh Right," Sam winced.

The Chieftain clapped his hands and smiled. People flowed out from doors situated all around the hall and seated themselves on the tables.

"Tonight we shall feast! And rejoice that the elves of Balder are here!" He shouted, his happy voice echoed through the massive hall.

People who appeared to be chefs appeared through the door ways and laid the tables with large pots full of soups, big trays of roast goat, beef and geese. Women brought out large containers full of bread, Barley beer and milk. That evening the peoples of the village feasted, and SG1 had to undo one of the buckles on their belts.
Jack was disappointed there was no chocolate. Damn.
